WTO fisheries negotiations take a step forward with compilation text and chair’s assessment

WTO members meeting as the Negotiating Group on Rules (NGR) on 12-13 October took a step forward in talks to limit harmful fisheries subsidies, as the chair delivered an assessment of the issues at play and members who had submitted earlier proposals jointly handed in a compilation text for the NGR’s consideration. The chair invited members to provide specific drafting suggestions on this text as a way collectively to advance the negotiations toward a fisheries subsidies outcome at the December Ministerial Conference in Buenos Aires.
