Trade officials meet ahead of COTED Ministerial in June

(Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) – Trade officials are meeting from 14-15 May to deliberate on a full agenda of regional economic matters during the Meeting of Senior Officials, ahead of the Sixty-Second Regular Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).

Senior officials from CARICOM Member States and CARICOM Secretariat officials joining the meeting virtually.

Discussions include the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), trade in goods, the Revised Common External Tariff, CARICOM Rules of Origin, as well as other regional and external economic and trade issues.

In his opening remarks, Chair of the Meeting and Dominica’s Ambassador to CARICOM, Dr Gerard Jean‑Jacques, underscored the role of COTED in advancing “key Single Market and trade and economic development issues that are at the heart of the Community’s agenda,” and urged officials to facilitate convergence on actionable recommendations for Ministers.

The outcomes of these deliberations will inform recommendations for consideration at the Meeting of CARICOM Ministers of Trade scheduled for 11-12 June 2022.
