CARICOM SG receives India’s Ambassador to CARICOM for farewell Courtesy Call

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) – The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and India on Tuesday 3 February affirmed their mutual ties of friendship and fraternal cooperation during a farewell courtesy call on the Secretary-General, Dr Carla Barnett by the Ambassador of India to CARICOM, H.E. Dr. Amit Telang.
During the meeting which took place at the Secretary-General’s residence in Georgetown, Guyana, Dr Barnett conveyed her appreciation to Ambassador Telang for advancing engagement between CARICOM and India during his tenure. She underscored the long-standing relationship between the Community and India and highlighted India’s role in supporting the Region during times of crisis, including its provision of COVID‑19 vaccines to CARICOM.

Ambassador Telang expressed India’s gratitude to the Secretary-General for the CARICOM Secretariat’s support of efforts to strengthen CARICOM-India relations during his tenure, including the 2024 CARICOM-India Summit held in Guyana.
He noted ongoing training opportunities provided by India to CARICOM Member States and noted his appreciation for the active participation in these programmes.
Both parties reaffirmed the ties of cooperation between CARICOM and India, with the extending best wishes to Ambassador Telang as he concludes his term in Guyana.
