CARICOM Secretary-General participates in Island States Ocean Summit

CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett, on Wednesday participated in a panel discussion at the Island States Ocean Summit now underway in Tokyo, Japan. The theme is Sustainable Ocean Action for Resilient Islands.
The Secretary-General shared the Region’s approach to ocean governance, underscoring the importance of integrating ocean governance, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development to building resilient blue economies.
In the discussion that underscored the need for greater collaboration, investment, capacity development, and knowledge-sharing, Dr. Barnett highlighted the challenges Small Island Developing States face in confronting the impacts of climate change and ocean management, including financing, security, data, and technical constraints.
