CARICOM EPG participates in OAS meeting on Haiti, and other engagements in Washington, D.C.

(Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) – The CARICOM Eminent Persons Group (EPG), comprising former Prime Ministers Dr. Kenny Anthony (Coordinator), Bruce Golding, and Perry Christie, participated in a Consultative Meeting on Haiti convened by the Organization of American States (OAS) on 2 February 2026 in Washington, D.C.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Foreign and Community Relations at the CARICOM Secretariat, Ms. Elizabeth Solomon, and the Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Haiti, Ambassador Colin Granderson, along with representatives from the OAS, CARICOM, the United Nations, the Government of Haiti, the United States, and Canada took part in the dialogue.
The meeting examined matters related to security, governance, and elections in Haiti, the rollout of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) leading up to the August 2026 national elections; the expiration of the mandate of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council on 7 February 2026 and associated transition arrangements; as well as preparations for the free and fair elections in August 2026.
Discussions also focused on supporting a collective resolve among Haitian stakeholders toward peace and stability during the transition period, and a secured, democratic, and prosperous future for Haiti.
The EPG held several engagements on the sidelines of the consultative dialogue, including with officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of The Bahamas and Jamaica on the Gang Suppression Force on 1 February.
The following day, 2 February, the EPG had discussions with representatives from the UN Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (UNDPPA); UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Haiti and Head of the UN Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH); and the Special Representative of the Gang Suppression Force in Haiti.
