Buyer requirements to access international markets for seafood products

Food safety and eco-labelling certification

On top of the legal requirements, international buyers may request additional standards to be met. These are often in the area of food safety management and sustainability.

The most commonly requested food safety certification schemes for seafood products by international buyers are IFS and / or BRC. Another growing market requirement request is Eco-labelling. For wild-caught fishery products, MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) is the major certification scheme. ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) is the most important certification scheme for aquaculture.
