Strong Democracies, Stronger Community: Prime Minister Drew Highlights CARICOM Unity in Barbados Visit

20 Feb 2026

The Honourable Dr Terrance M. Drew, Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis and Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), continued his series of regional engagements today, Friday, 20 February, with a visit to Barbados, where he met with the Honourable Mia Amor Mottley, S.C., M.P., Prime Minister of Barbados.

Despite the significance of the ceremonial Opening of the First Session of Parliament following Barbados’ recent General Elections, Prime Minister Mottley made time to meet with Prime Minister Drew ahead of the proceedings, underscoring the strength of regional bonds and the spirit of Caribbean unity.

Prime Minister Drew was also honoured to attend the ceremonial opening of Parliament, describing it as “a proud moment for Barbados and a reminder that strong democracies strengthen our Caribbean Community.”

As CARICOM Chair, Prime Minister Drew reaffirmed his commitment to face-to-face dialogue with regional leaders, noting:

“In this changing global environment, dialogue and coordinated leadership are essential for the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis and our wider Region.”

This engagement forms part of Prime Minister Drew’s ongoing outreach ahead of the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, to be hosted in Saint Kitts and Nevis from 24–27 February 2026.
