The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation (BCCEC) hosted its second annual Trade Expo on Saturday, June 15th at Baha Mar from 10 am – 6 pm to showcase the goods and services offered by the private sector. At a time when the strengthening of the local business community has become part and parcel of the overall effort to improve the economy and enhance growth, the BCCEC fulfilled one of its mandates which is to provide platforms for local manufacturers to showcase their goods and reach new markets. This objective was achieved as many participants were able to seize opportunities for global expansion as they connected with potential clients, investors, and the wider public.

Over (60) small, medium, and large businesses participated in the Trade Expo. Businesses came from various sectors including Financial Services, Cosmetics & Pharmaceuticals, Food & Beverages, and Creative Industries; with the Creative Industries sector having the largest number of participants.

The BCCEC recognizes the importance of local businesses to the economy

The day began with a brief opening ceremony that was hosted by Charo R. Walker-Morley, BCCEC Trade Services Manager. “The Chamber recognizes the importance of local businesses as they contribute significantly to the local economy by bringing growth and innovation to the community and by also helping to stimulate economic growth by providing employment opportunities for people. The Chamber also recognizes that there are some challenges with the ease of doing business in The Bahamas and we will continue to petition the Government to address these challenges, we will continue to advocate for local businesses,” stated Darron Pickstock, Chairman of the Chamber’s Trade, Foreign and Domestic Economic Development Division.

BCCEC CEO Jeffrey Beckles in his remarks, challenged the participants to fully recognize their value to the economy of The Bahamas and said that it was important that they realize that their markets are well beyond the shores of The Bahamas. “The world is your marketplace”, he opined. He then went on to encourage participants to join the BCCEC in order to strengthen the organization’s capacity.

The BCCEC intends to host a second Trade Expo later this year

Trade shows are important – they give companies a way to get their brand in front of new or existing customers. They also provide companies with networking opportunities and, most of all, allow them to generate leads and sales.

Based on the positive feedback of the event and the BCCEC’s commitment to strengthening the private sector, the BCCEC intends to host a second Trade Expo later this year. Be sure to stay connected so that you can participate.
