The partnership allows The Bahamas to tap into Emirates’ global network
National carrier Bahamasair and Emirates airline have signed an historic memorandum of understanding (MOU) for an interline agreement, seen as a crucial step in linking The Bahamas to the markets where Emirates flies, a statement from the Ministry of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation said.
According to the statement, the signing took place in New Delhi, India, and was described by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation Chester Cooper as a “bold move to expand The Bahamas’ presence in key global regions”.
Cooper said the partnership allows The Bahamas to tap into Emirates’ global network throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, bringing more visitors to The Bahamas.
“This partnership with Emirates is a game-changer for The Bahamas… strengthening our airlift strategy, and elevating Bahamasair as a regional connector,” said Cooper.
“The fact that Emirates is moving swiftly on implementation is a clear sign of confidence in The Bahamas as a destination and in the potential of this collaboration.”
The statement explained that the interline agreement will allow travelers to book seamless, single-ticket journeys from anywhere within Emirates’ network to The Bahamas by using strategic gateway cities.
The MOU includes technical and operational support for Bahamasair
The statement said the MOU also includes Emirates’ commitment to technical and operational support for Bahamasair.
“This includes staff training opportunities, the adoption of best practice policies, joint marketing presentations to its global sales teams, and the exploration of Bahamasair’s potential inclusion in Emirates’ Skywards frequent flyer program,” the statement said.
“Discussions also include collaboration on cargo services through Miami, opening the door to increased commercial opportunities between India and The Bahamas.”
Managing Director of Bahamasair Tracy Cooper added that the agreement positions Bahamasair for long-term growth. He said it elevates Bahamasair’s global profile and allows the airline to access expertise and new markets.
“By aligning with one of the world’s most respected airlines, we strengthen our capabilities and lay the groundwork for sustained international growth,” said Cooper.
The statement added: “This agreement culminates several years of negotiations by the Ministry of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation; and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
