Bahamian delegation meets with Haitian President, Prime Minister, and Government Officials at the National Palace.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

The delegation met with Haitian President Moise<\/h2>\n

In keeping with its aggressive trade agenda the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers\u2019 Confederation (BCCEC), in partnership with ALIV, BahamasAir, and the Bahamas Embassy in Haiti, recently led a cross-section of (17) Bahamian business persons on a trade mission, to Port-au-Prince, Haiti from Wednesday, May 23rd\u00a0to Saturday, May 26th.\u00a0 The delegation was headed by BCCEC CEO Edison L. Sumner.<\/p>\n

The trade mission included a Courtesy Call with Haitian President Jovenel Mo\u00efse, Haitian Prime Minister Dr. Jack Guy Lafontant and other government ministers at the Haitian National Palace. Discussions centered on the Bahamas private sector\u2019s commitment to follow-up on the recent high-level Bahamas government visit to Haiti in February of this year. Trade facilitation, logistics, and agriculture were some of the topics addressed. The Haitian President stressed that his government was open to trade and investments, particularly, in the agriculture and electricity generation sectors, respectively.<\/p>\n

Business-to-business sessions were held<\/h2>\n

Delegates also visited E-Power; a power station, Port Lafito; a real estate development to include a modern international port, a free zone, a business park, a country club and an ocean club, and AGA Corp. Group; a clothing manufacturing company.<\/p>\n

Another highlight of the mission was the business-to-business sessions where Bahamian delegates were paired with their Haitian counterparts in a series of scheduled meetings to discuss and explore business opportunities in Haiti. Apart from the one-on-one meetings, the delegation also benefited from presentations from the Center for Facilitation of Investments in Haiti, Fonkoze; a micro-financing company, and Digicel BPO; a business division of Digicel Haiti, focusing on delivering Business Processes Outsourcing (BPO) in the area of contact center services.<\/p>\n

A presentation was also made by the BCCEC about the trade and investment opportunities available in The Bahamas; the details of which were outlined in a commemorative Trade Mission Booklet that was distributed widely.<\/p>\n

The mission ended with a networking reception where approximately (50) persons from government and the private sector gathered.<\/p>\n
