Moody’s is an essential component of the global capital markets, providing credit ratings, research, tools and analysis that contribute to transparent and integrated financial markets <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest said the government is \u201chopeful\u201d the country\u2019s investment rating will be maintained. His comments came shortly after international credit rating agency Moody\u2019s completed its visit to The Bahamas yesterday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Moody’s and the IMF Visit The Bahamas<\/h2>\n

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) also visited The Bahamas last week. Speaking with Guardian Business yesterday, Turnquest confirmed that the IMF is finished with its consultation. \u201cWe await their report. We assume it will be published shortly and we are satisfied that it is fair,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the government also expects to receive a similar statement from Moody\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The ratings giant placed The Bahamas\u2019 Baa3 credit rating on review for a possible downgrade earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Government Optimistic about Investment Rating<\/h2>\n

\u201cWe are hopeful that we will maintain our investment rating as we move towards correcting the challenges that we are all aware of,\u201d said Turnquest.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am optimistic. I have no reason to believe that anything has significantly changed such that the future outlook for the country has not been improved.<\/p>\n
